This hardy self-fertile plant produces masses of sweet delicious fruit. Like most figs it will live happily in a large pot or half wine barrel. Preferring lighter soils, it is happy in most soil types and is also quite drought hardy, though when producing its fruit, regular water will improve the quality and size of the fruit.

Being a persistent (or common fig) they have no requirement for pollination by insects. There are usually 2 crops of fruit a year, the first in spring and the second towards the end of summer. The second will generally be superior in both quality and quantity, so make sure you don't let them dry out too much over summer. The first crop will be on last year's old growth and the second will be on the new growth that comes in spring. Being one of the highest plant based sources of calcium and fibre and also being high in copper, manganese, magnesium, potassium, calcium, and vitamin K they make a great addition to any urban orchard.

When grown in large pots it is recommended to move the pot slightly every year, and fertilize well in late winter
