The Cheyenne pecan is known for being a self-pollinating variety that is easy to peel and has a medium sized fruit and an attractive shell. The Cheyenne pecan is also renowned for its excellent eating properties and high yields in a single tree environment.

Pecan trees, while making a prized fruit, also make a superb specimen tree. Their deciduous nature lends them well to a northerly planting in Melbourne. Being part of the Hickory family their timber is prized for many purposes, a common one being for smoking meats.

While called a nut, technically the pecan is a drupe. The fruit are known for their rich buttery flavour; they can be eaten fresh, cooked in sweet or savoury deserts, or stored by either refrigerating.
