The Madagascar Palm is a drought tolerant plant native to southern Madagascar, though it can be grown almost anywhere. It is a slow growing plant and will take a number of years to reach its full height potential. Full sun is the growing preference, though it can also be planted in a pot and placed on a balcony that has access to sunlight.  With minimal watering requirements, all that is needed to keep the Madagascar palm happy is light doses of liquid fertilizer during the warmer months
