A very hardy palm that is suitable to the varying conditions of Melbourne, the Chinese Fan Palm is a highly suitable palm, both in the garden and indoors.
Outdoors it's a hardy plant that with a minimum of maintenance will thrive in most soil types. It is a very drought hardy palm, but will benefit from feeding in spring and regular watering in the warmer months. Requiring minimal maintenance other than pruning it complements any tropical garden or pool/al fresco area.
Indoors or under verandas, it requires a well lit area and watering only when the pot is very light, making it ideal for the potted palm garden in particular terracotta style pots.
