A cold hardy native palm that while preferring free draining well watered soil, also grows well in wet heavy soils in which it requires little additional watering. Over time the Bangalow palm will grow to a maximum of 4-8 meters in Melbourne. Being self cleaning, this palm requires little maintenance. Best results are achieved with small infrequent applications of slow release fertilizer, and protection from strong wind when young.
The trunk of the Bangalow palm is 30-40 cm in diameter (a little wider at the base) making it an ideal palm to plant in a ‘row’ along a driveway, boundary or frontage. Their fine root system means they are unlikely to cause any issues with pipes, etc.
