The Acer Palmatum, known as the Japanese maple is surprisingly hardy and will tolerate full sun, but prefer a slightly sheltered position.
The Japanese maple has small red/purple flowers which appear in spring and the foliage changes from dark green to a gold-ish red colour during autumn and winter. These dramatic changes in colour over the warmer months make for a stunning feature in any garden.
Mulch well and fertilize with a general purpose slow release fertilizer or compost in early spring.
