Protea cynaroides, known as the king protea is a distinctive plant that has the largest flower head in the protea family. Also known as the giant protea, honeypot or king sugar bush, the flower is a magnet for bees and the cream to yellow, pink to red to white colours looks captivating in any garden.
The flowers on the king protea are long lasting which can be cut and used for floral arrangements.
The genus Protea was named after the Greek God Proteus prefers full sun, but can tolerate partial shade and mild frost.
As with all Proteas, the King Protea is a very drought hardy plant once established.
