Frangipani was named after a 16th century Italian perfume used to scent gloves. The Frangipani species was discovered by Charles Plumier in Central Amercia, but named Frangipani as it reminded people of the glove scent.

The Frangipani is a deciduous tree that can grow up to 8M and 5M wide. It's leaves are shinny and dark green, the stems are a brownish grey colour and contain white sap, with a fragrant soft edged flower.

The frangipani blooms from November to May and the flower colour varies between the different varieties. The most common flower type is the white with a yellow centre, but the other variety colours can range from red through to pink centres.

This is a great choice for a Aussie backyard.

In Melbourne the Frangipani loves being planted in front of a nth facing brick wall.  We have found mulching very heavily in the winter helps keep the plant a little drier and warmer.

Fertilize in early spring with lots of compost and a small amount of blood and bone.
