Due to its compact form Christmas Bush/Ceratopetalum Albery's Red is perfect as either a screening plant or as part of any drought hardy or native garden. Preferring moderately to well drained soil, this plant is drought hardy, though it does not like to be completely dried out. Moderate watering may be required in lighter soils and high wind areas in late spring and early summer to maintain flowers.
Growing quickly to 2 metres it is ideal as a planter box based screen or as part of a decking/Al fresco area.
While in late spring it puts on a display of creamy white flowers, it’s real beauty is revealed every Christmas when is puts on a massive display of bright red flowers earning its name ‘The NSW Christmas Bush’. Under less extreme conditions, this show will last well into Jan/Feb, and will provide a continuous supply of cut flowers for the house. It excels in this regard, and with appropriate care Albery's Red is able to provide an annual regrowth of 50%. Prune immediately after flowering to encourage new flowers.
