Spartan has a naturally dense and conical form making it suitable for hedges or screens in spaced plantings or an attractive feature in a group planting. As it responds well to pruning, Spartan can also be used for topiary. Its foliage is needle-like deep green and bears blue berries. Happy in most soil types and adaptable to dry or moist soil and tolerates salt well. Fertilise early spring and prune in summer. Once established, Spartan needs only occasional watering.
